After a long trip, nothing feels better than to have the feeling you're coming home, or at least into someone's home. I hate hotels. Hotels we can afford are so unpersonal and uninspired. I hate the little paintings above the beds and the little empty bureaus. This is why I love Airbnb. It provided us with overnight stays that felt like sleepovers at a friend's place. On Airbnb, I found Shannon and Shaun in Portland. We only spent two nights at their place, but they left a wonderful memory.

Eventhough we arrived late in the evening, after an exhausting drive from the North Cascades to Portland, Shannon enthusiastically showed us her house, of which she is very proud. She introduced us quickly to her boyfriend Shaun and led us into the garden where our little home would be. With Shaun she had built a little cabin in the garden, for warm summer nights. Sleeping there felt like sleeping outside, as it was so cozy and had a transparent roof.

After exploring the city a little bit on our first day there, we went back to relax a little bit. We were planning to go back into the city that evening. Yet, immediately when we arrived at Shannon's we were poured some wine. Next thing we knew, we were invited to have dinner with them and discovered Shannon is a very good and professional cook. Her tenderloin with polenta was awesome!

That evening we truly experienced America's love for sharing stories. Shannon told us about the crazy adventures of her sister, who is a masseuse living in Hawaii. In a juicy story she used to be Barack Obama's masseuse, because she knew his grandmother. She had witnessed Obama informing his family about running for President. The wine kept flowing endlessly. I won't go into anymore detail. You will have to meet them yourselves.
