Top Three Secluded Beaches

When it comes to preparing a new journey, I turn into a hermit, spending hours and hours behind my computer scavenging the internet for the perfect unspoiled destination. Though I know it's kind of a paradox to want to discover the world and wander off the beaten path while using google maps, I still do it. Why? Just to be sure I know all the tourist traps, which look ever so luring in the pictures, but mostly suck. I spend all these hours researching my destination to know where to start, and what to avoid.

I especially invest a lot of my time trying to find the perfect beach destination. It sometimes seems like all good beaches are hijacked by big resorts and annoying people. We had this experience in Oualidia, Morroco. There was a gorgeous lagoon completely spoiled by enormous hotels and dozens of tour operators offering silly trips with their little boats. The same goes for Mons Klint in Denmark. It truly is a breathtakingly beautiful place (see picture below), but you will have to be there before ten in the morning. In the afternoon the place is about as crowded as a footballstadium.

I will use this post to unveil three beautiful secluded beaches on which you can spend hours gazing at the sea, enjoying the scenery without having to share it with hundreds of others. Or at least, if you read this now my blog isn't all that succesfull yet.
The absolute number one: Kvalvika, Norway
Kvalvika in Lofoten (see picture at the top of the page) is undisputably the most beautiful beach I have ever visited. It is surrounded by these green mountains and has a clean uninterupted view of the ocean. The beach is reached through a short hike over the mountains. Kvalvika truly is a sanctuary. For example, when we were there the mountains blocked bad weather and unlike the rest of the islands this beach was drenched in sunlight. We camped, had a fire and enjoyed the good life. Also check out my article on Kvalvika Beach.

Number two: Tiwi Beach, Kenya
When I visited Kenya, I wanted to do two things. First of all, I naturally wanted to undertake a safari. This was intended to be very intense; driving around all day to spot as many animals as possible and camping out in the wilderness at night. So, secondly, I wanted to relax at a beautiful Kenyan beach lined with palm trees, and preferably without any big resorts or attractions. After many, very many hours of research I found this amazing spot: Tiwi Beach.

Number three: Fur Strand
I was very happy to have found the little island of Fur before my visit to Denmark. We made camp at a little bivouac campsite very near the beach. There were meadows with cows and, at the end, the cliffs with a small beach beneath them. Fur is a very small version of Mons Klint, without all the attention.
